Sydney’s Ugliness

I strongly agree with Elizabeth Farrelly's piece in the Sydney Morning Herald on why Sydney is such an ugly city. I have lived in Sydney longer than in my birthplace of Melbourne and there are places in Sydney I have find beautiful. Some, like the Harbour Bridge up close or the CBD as viewed from North Sydney simply look wonderful, others, like Botany Bay, are full of memories and dreams. But much of Sydney lacks history, lacks the stories that interesting architecture and narrow laneways can tell. It lacks the pride that Melbourne expresses in itself, replacing it with naked greed and selfishness.  When I first visited Sydney at age seven I thought to myself that Sydney is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here. My opinion hasn't changed. So why am I still here?
